Energy Nexus Cluster on the rise: New Members and Key Developments

Europe’s energy transition is moving from ambition to implementation. As energy systems become more decentralised, digitalised, and data-driven, collaboration across EU-funded research and innovation projects is becoming essential. No single project can address the full complexity of energy flexibility, interoperability, cybersecurity, privacy, storage, consumer participation, and market adoption alone.

The Energy Nexus Cluster, coordinated by Privanova, was created to respond to this need. It brings together EU-funded projects working on complementary aspects of the clean energy transition and provides a structured platform for knowledge exchange, joint dissemination, stakeholder engagement, and policy-relevant collaboration.

The cluster has now entered a new phase of growth. With the addition of MASTERPIECE, STUNNED, INTELLIGENT and INTERSTORES, the Energy Nexus Cluster now brings together 15 EU-funded projects. The new projects bring further expertise across areas such as smart energy systems, storage, digital platforms, flexibility services, user engagement, and system integration. This expansion strengthens the cluster’s role as a collaborative ecosystem for projects addressing the future of Europe’s energy systems.

Energy Nexus Cluster at ENLIT 2025

A key recent milestone was the Energy Nexus Cluster’s coordinated participation in ENLIT 2025, held on 18–19 November 2025, in Bilbao, Spain. The event served as a flagship joint dissemination activity, giving the cluster a high-visibility platform to present the collective work of its members and engage with policymakers, industry representatives, researchers and system operators.

The cluster operated two booths in the EU Projects Zone at ENLIT 2025. These booths showcased project tools, platforms, pilot use cases and dissemination materials, while enabling direct engagement with stakeholders interested in flexibility markets, digital energy platforms, sector integration and consumer participation. The shared booth presence helped present the cluster as a coherent ecosystem rather than a set of isolated projects.

The two speaking sessions were held under the common title “A Holistic View of Energy Flexibility: From Systems and Services to People.” They focused on digital platforms, interoperable tools, automation, AI, pilot lessons, regulatory readiness and the path from research to market adoption. The sessions used an interactive format, combining short project presentations, moderated discussion, and audience Q&A.

This joint presence helped position the Energy Nexus Cluster as a unified voice on energy flexibility, interoperability and user-centric solutions. It also showed the value of coordinated dissemination: projects gained visibility individually, while contributing to a stronger shared narrative.

Preparing for EUSEW 2026

Building on the momentum from ENLIT 2025, the Energy Nexus Cluster is now preparing for participation in European Sustainable Energy Week 2026, taking place in June 2026.

EUSEW is a key European forum for discussions on sustainable energy, policy priorities and innovation. For the cluster, it will be another opportunity to engage with stakeholders, present project results and contribute to conversations on Europe’s clean, secure and competitive energy future.

Preparations are ongoing, and further details will be shared through Privanova’s channels and the Energy Nexus Cluster newsletter. Stakeholders interested in the cluster’s EUSEW 2026 activities are encouraged to stay tuned.

Workshops That Drive Collaboration

Beyond major events, the Energy Nexus Cluster continues to organise regular internal workshops for member projects. These sessions are central to the cluster’s day-to-day collaboration.

These workshops allow projects to exchange updates, discuss shared challenges, identify synergies, and plan joint activities. They also support alignment on dissemination, exploitation, stakeholder engagement, and policy communication.

What Comes Next

The Energy Nexus Cluster is growing in both scale and relevance. Its value lies in helping projects move beyond individual outputs. By working together, cluster members can increase visibility, strengthen policy relevance and support the practical uptake of solutions for Europe’s energy transition.

As energy systems become more complex, collaboration will remain essential. The Energy Nexus Cluster is helping create the connections needed to turn research into shared progress.
